VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- A Colorado couple seeking levity at their wedding in Canada have chosen to be married by a ventriloquist's dummy operated by a show biz minister.

David Balsiger, 63, and Christine Strong will marry Saturday at a ceremony conducted by Butch, the sidekick of Maralee Dawn, the Vancouver Sun reported.

Dawn and Butch star in the TV program "Maralee Dawn and Friends," and told the newspaper combining her entertainment and religious background was "a real stretch" and despite the lightheartedness, she would ensure "a serious covenant will be made."

Strong, age unreported, said the couple has friends coming to British Columbia from Arizona, California and Colorado for the 15-minute ceremony led by Butch.

"Everyone thinks weddings are supposed to be solemn. It's a cultural ritual, and we're breaking the rules on the ritual," Strong told the Sun.

She said she and Balsiger are strict vegans and evangelical Christians who share a great sense of humor.
