Police: Man stole sauce, tape from boat

GAINESVILLE, Fla., Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said they arrested a man who broke into a house boat and stole a roll of electrical tape and a bottle of Tabasco sauce.

Gainesville police Officer Edward Ratliff said a witness spotted Richard Humphrey, 47, allegedly breaking into a parked house boat at about 4:32 a.m. Monday and told police the suspect fled the area on a bicycle, the Gainesville (Fla.) Sun reported Tuesday.

Ratliff said he caught up with Humphrey, who allegedly told the officer he had broken into the house boat to take a nap. The suspect was found to be in possession of a $1 bottle of Tabasco sauce and a $3 roll of electrical tape taken from the boat.

Police said Humphrey's reasons for allegedly taking the items were unclear. The suspect was arrested on charges of unarmed burglary and petty theft. He was taken to the Alachua County jail.
