GREAT FALLS, Va., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Rescue officials in Virginia said they needed a helicopter to rescue a woman who fell down a rock face after accepting her boyfriend's proposal.
The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service said the couple were hiking Sunday on the Billy Goat Trail near Great Falls, Va., when the woman accepted her boyfriend's marriage proposal and soon after slipped while walking and fell about 10 feet down the rock face, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.
Rescuers had to use a U.S. Park Police helicopter to rescue the woman, whose injuries were not life threatening. Authorities said she suffered bumps, bruises and injuries to her head and chest.
"That must have been a heck of a proposal," assistant chief Scott Graham of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service said. "I believe she did (say yes) ... If she didn't, I think we ought to investigate this one."
Authorities said the woman had not been drinking and was wearing the proper footwear. They blamed her fall on the trail's rough terrain.
