LOS GATOS, Calif., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- A California man said he has plotted a course that will allow him to drive through 49 states in nine days in his 1931 Ford Highboy roadster.
Dave Schaub, 59, of Los Gatos, said he plans to cover about 1,100 miles each day while driving an average speed of 62 mph on his trip, which is set to begin one minute after midnight Wednesday, the San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News reported Tuesday.
"I'll be driving about 16 to 18 hours a day," Schaub said.
He said the trek is set to end in Hyder, Alaska, after covering 9,800 miles in a projected 216 hours.
"I've done 1,380 miles in a day," Schaub said. "I just figured 1,100 miles a day is the key number, and I should be able to do it, providing I don't have a breakdown or a tornado to slow me down."
Schaub said the trip will benefit the Ronald McDonald House charity in Stanford, Calif. He said $70,000 has already been raised by asking people to donate one penny for each mile he drives.
