GREENFIELD, Ind., Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Police in Indiana said a 9-year-old boy who was upset about the 8 p.m. curfew imposed by his parents led officers on a 30-minute car chase.
Derek Towle, deputy chief of the Greenfield Police Department, said cars from five departments responded to reports of a possibly drunk driver swerving on U.S. 40 at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, The Indianapolis Star reported Monday.
Towle said the 2005 silver Chevrolet Aveo drove across the median and traveled the wrong way on the road at speeds of up to 80 mph during the chase, which ended about two miles west of Knightstown, Ind., when police used a spiked strip to flatten the vehicle's tires.
"Once they got the vehicle stopped, the officers were kind of surprised to see who it was," Towle said.
He said the driver was a 9-year-old Greenfield boy who told police he had taken his parents' car because he was angry about having to come inside and go to bed at 8 p.m.
The boy, whose name was not released, was arrested on preliminary charges of fleeing law enforcement. Towle said police were planning to seek counseling for the boy.
