PREESALL, England, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Police in Britain have arrested a town's mayor on suspicion of stealing women's undergarments from multiple homes.
Lancashire Police said Preesall, England, Mayor Ian Stafford, 58, was found to have a collection of "stolen knickers" in his home after several female residents of Preesall complained of intimate apparel disappearing from their homes, The Sun reported Monday.
Investigators said one woman used a security camera to record a male suspect in the act of rifling through her drawers, putting on her underwear and performing a sex act.
A town spokesman said Stafford has resigned as mayor.
