EDINBURGH, Scotland, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- A Scottish design firm has come up with a "teen-proof" room complete with carpeting that resists stains and an under-the-bed dump site for clothes.

The furnishings, designed by IDP of Edinburgh, include a chair with pockets for candy and small electronic items and a bed with compartments for iPods and other necessities. The pushpin-friendly walls -- those rock posters -- are covered with fabric, and the glass-top desk can be cleaned with a wipe or two.

"It was an incredibly challenging project," Gilly Corkery of IDP told The Scotsman. "How do you counteract the natural messiness of teenagers?"

Corkery said she studied her own 12-year-old son, Jamie, to come up with "those little quirky things" teens like.

Parents who want teen-friendly furnishings have to be prepared to pay the price. IDP's desk costs 999 pounds (almost $1,650), and the chair is about half that.

The teen room is to be displayed next week at the Homes & Interiors Scotland Exhibition in Glasgow.
