DELRAN, N.J., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- An 80-year-old New Jersey man said he has completed a 3,685-mile bike ride from Oregon to New Hampshire and is now setting his sights on another continent.
John Damiano of Delran, N.J., said it took him six months of conditioning to prepare for the cross-country ride. He said he began riding at age 40 to improve his health, WPVI-TV, Philadelphia, reported Tuesday.
"It was 50 days, some days we'd get up at 4:30, then get on the bike, go 120 miles, we did 100 miles five days in a row," Damiano said.
Damiano said he is waiting to hear whether his ride qualifies for an entry in Guinness World Records but in the meantime he is planning another long cycling trek, this time from St. Petersburg, Russia, to Istanbul, Turkey.
"I want to see all the developments. I want as many years as I can," he said.
