EULESS, Texas, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Police in Texas said thieves who attempted to steal an ATM were apparently scared away by sirens from a nearby chase.
Euless police Lt. John Williams said the thieves broke into a front-end loader, which had been parked about a black away from the Omni American Credit Union, and used it to knock an ATM off its pedestal at the credit union at about 2:20 a.m. Sunday, the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram reported Tuesday.
The ATM and the front-end loader were abandoned only about 25 feet from the pedestal, police said. They said the thieves may have heard the sirens from police chasing a suspected intoxicated driver on a nearby road.
"They may have heard the sirens and just left everything," Williams said.
