CARY, N.C., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- A Cary, N.C., man said water runoff from city road projects prompted him to have "Screwed by the town of Cary" painted on the side of his house.

David Bowden said the elevation of Southwest Maynard Road in front of his home caused enough water to pool under the house to reach its duct work, the Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported Tuesday.

Mike Bajorek, assistant Cary town manager, said the city built a retaining wall and drainage pipes in response to Bowden's complaints. But Bowden said the pipes release water into his driveway, where it rolls downhill to his house.

"You don't have to be an engineer to know that water runs downhill," Bowden said.

He said he decided to have the bright orange message spray-painted on the side of his house after complaints to his town council representative, town engineers and others went unanswered. He said he wants the city to buy the house for its $170,000 tax value, with an added $80,000 for the troubles caused by the roadwork.

But Bowden said the town sent him a notice informing him the homemade billboard violates ordinances and could result in fines of $500 per day if he does not have it removed.
