Restaurant replaces cafe's stolen statue

NEW YORK, July 20 (UPI) -- A famed Statue of Liberty stolen from in front of a New York cafe and brutally destroyed in a video posted on YouTube has been replaced by another restaurant.

Workers from One if by Land, Two if by Sea in Manhattan led the replacement statue on a procession to Vox Pop in Brooklyn, where the original 8-foot-tall replica of Lady Liberty was stolen in June, the New York Daily News reported Monday.

Tom Kirk, the dining room manager of One if by Land, Two if by Sea, offered to donate the restaurant's own rooftop Liberty statue.

"I just thought it was a horrible, disgusting thing," Kirk said of the theft and destruction of the statue. "I called my owners and said what do you think if we donate our statue. They were ready and willing to help."

"For me, this is the bridge between the two restaurants," said Debi Ryan, manager of Vox Pop. "It is the bridge between the two boroughs and it is also a bridge between all of us working together."

Vox Pop owner Sander Hicks said police were working to track down the vandals responsible for Lady Liberty's demise.
