KING, N.C., June 25 (UPI) -- A North Carolina-based group has announced the 10th annual Take Your Dog to Work Day, a day to encourage workers to bring their pooches to the office.

Pet Sitters International, the North Carolina-based Web site that came up with the event, said the special day "was created to celebrate the great companions dogs make and to encourage their adoption," the New York Daily News reported Thursday.

"In today's economy, pet adoption is the most eco-friendly and budget-conscious option for finding your next four-legged best friend," said Patti Moran, president of Pet Sitters International.

Moran said thousands of companies, including Disney and Johnson & Johnson, are expected to participate in Friday's event.
