'Murderer's Row' photo sells for $350,000

NEW YORK, June 19 (UPI) -- An authentication official says a photograph of the 1927 New York Yankees team that earned the nickname "Murderer's Row" has sold for $350,000.

PSA/DNA Authentication Services President Joe Orlando said in a release Thursday the auction sale of the autographed baseball photo was a record price for an item of its kind.

"The price is the most ever paid for a vintage sports photograph and is nearly 70 percent higher than the last time this autographed picture was sold in an auction less than three years ago," Orlando said, referring to the $206,000 price the photo brought in a 2006 auction.

Orlando said the photograph was signed by 30 members of the 1927 team, which included baseball greats Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.

The photo was purchased by an unidentified New York collector who plans to display it at Yankee Stadium, Orlando said.

Bar stool crasher's child support: $37,066

NEWARK, Ohio, June 19 (UPI) -- An Ohio man who drunkenly crashed his motorized bar stool must put any proceeds from its sale toward $37,066.39 in unpaid child support, a court said.

Licking County Magistrate John Berryhill said Kile Wygle -- who pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he drunkenly crashed a bar stool that was welded to a metal frame and a five-horsepower engine -- must inform the Licking County Child Support Enforcement Agency if he sells the stool and put any proceeds from the sale toward his massive child support debt, The Newark (Ohio) Advocate-Reporter reported.

However, Berryhill denied the child support agency's petition to seize the stool, saying "there are no funds to carry this out, no transportation available and no place for storage that would assure it would not be harmed."

Wygle, meanwhile, said he would not mind if the agency took the stool and attempted to sell it.

"I told them I don't have a license," he said. "They can come pick it up."

Krakow city hall hands out free poop bags

WARSAW, Poland, June 19 (UPI) -- Krakow municipal police in southern Poland are out in the streets to fine dog-walking citizens $210 each for failing to pick up their dogs' poop.

In a campaign to keep the streets' sidewalks cleared of dog feces, Krakow Mayor Jacek Majchrowski has formed a task force to tackle the problem of removing about 13,200 pounds of that stuff each day.

The mayor's campaign added 100 special collecting trash bins to the already existing 400 bins, in addition to handing out free poop bags to dog owners, Poland's thenews.pl Web site said.

City officials say lazy dog owners, who repeatedly refuse to collect droppings, would be taken to court to face a fine of $1,540.

Man finds Jesus in coffee stain

RAVENA, N.Y., June 19 (UPI) -- A New York state man says he discovered a coffee stain in the shape of Jesus Christ's face on the inside of a Mason jar drinking mug.

Jerry Stolfi, 49, of Ravena, said he noticed the image, which is smaller than a square inch, of Jesus' face wearing the crown of thorns after he finished a cup of coffee April 29 and has since kept the mug carefully stored in a cupboard that has been re-dubbed a "shrine," the Albany (N.Y.) Times-Union reported.

"It doesn't smell, though, and I will never be washing it," he said.

Stolfi said not everyone sees the same image when they look at the glass.

"It's 50-50," he said. "I don't blame those that don't see the image. I saw it straight off the bat."

The former alter boy and aspiring playwright said he has no plans to attempt to profit from the stain, but his girlfriend convinced him to share it with the world as a message of hope.

"You don't hear about an image like this coming to everybody every day," he said. "It's so rare. He selected me for some reason."
