NAPLES, Fla., June 19 (UPI) -- A Florida woman said she did not think much of a mysterious loud noise outside of her home until she found a helicopter had crashed into a pool house.
Carol McGuirk of Naples said the chopper crashed into the Avion Woods pool house only a few steps from her home Thursday morning, the Naples (Fla.) Daily News reported Friday.
"I don't know what to do, I'm just stunned," McGuirk said. "It's scary. I don't know what I would have done if (I was out there)."
Greg Spears, spokesman for the East Naples Fire District, said the pilot of the Schweizer 300 helicopter was the only person on board at the time of the crash and was semi-conscious when he was pulled from the wreckage. The pilot, whose name was not released, was airlifted to a hospital with a broken femur.
Authorities said there was no one in the pool house or the pool at the time of the crash.
Spears said the helicopter, which he described as "completely destroyed," appeared to have lost power while in the air on a training flight.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
