HELSINGBORG, Sweden, May 28 (UPI) -- A Swedish court told a man convicted of attacking his girlfriend with a knife that his sentence was reduced because the woman's dog bit him in the testicles.

The Helsingborg District Court said the 32-year-old man received only a one and a half year jail sentence for aggravated assault. Court officials said the man would have received a harsher sentence if not for the suffering caused when he was injured by the woman's Rottweiler, Swedish news agency Tidningarnas Telegrambyra reported Thursday.

The woman told the court her dog attacked the man after he stabbed her twice from behind March 31. The Rottweiler was stabbed twice in the throat after damaging the man's scrotum, TT said.
