The tourists were charged with "scandal and misrepresentation of a costume or uniform" for wearing nun costumes with thongs and garter belts in the town of Malia, The Sun reported Monday.

"They were dressed like nuns, carrying crosses, but wearing thongs under their skirts and showing people their bottoms and the rest," a police source said.

However, the men were declared innocent and set free after no witnesses showed up to testify against them at a court in the town of Iraklio.

Investigators said someone stole Car 3006 from a concert Friday featuring rock groups Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction and apparently took the vehicle for a joyride before leaving it in the garage, the San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News reported Monday.

Officers searched the streets of the city for the black and white Ford Crown Victoria after it went missing Friday and a police helicopter from the San Jose police department joined the search Friday night and Saturday.

A Mountain View resident called police at about 1:35 p.m. Sunday and said she spotted the missing police car in her apartment complex's parking garage. Police said the car was undamaged and a shotgun that was locked in the back of the car remained unmolested. However, officers said the keys were not with the car.

Police said they are hoping evidence gathered from the car will point them toward a suspect.

More than 300 tango in Denver park

DENVER, May 25 (UPI) -- Participants in an annual Argentine tango party in Denver said more than 300 people danced at the outdoor event despite rain early in the day.

The event, the ninth annual gathering organized by social group Tango Colorado, celebrates Argentine tango, which evolved as an improv street dance inspired by traditional ballroom tango.

Participants told The Denver Post that rains early Sunday in Denver dampened the outdoor plaza at the city's Cheesman Park, but the skies cleared and dancers said the event went off without a hitch.

Bob Stang, president of Tango Colorado, said nearly half of the people who attended Sunday's dance traveled from out of town, and many came from far-flung states.

"With tango, no matter where you go, you meet a lot of new friends. When you're traveling, they teach you where to go, what to do and where to eat," Stang said.

Alaska man's beard named world's best

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, May 25 (UPI) -- A man with a beard in the shape of a snowshoe was awarded the top prize during the the 2009 World Beard and Moustache Championships in Anchorage, Alaska.

David Traver, 43, of Anchorage, bested 140 facial hair-wearing competitors from around the globe to win the commemorative gold pan and salmon fishing trip reserved for the man with the world's coolest beard, the Anchorage Daily News reported Monday.

Traver's beard featured 20.5 inches of facial hair dyed multiple colors and woven by beard stylist Ledjha Carson into the shape of a snowshoe.

The beard champion, who also took home the top prize in the freestyle beard category, said he now plans to shave his face clean for charity. He said his beard will be shaved in the name of whoever makes the largest donation to Covenant House.

However, Traver said shaving doesn't mean he is done with facial hair.

"I'll probably grow a mustache," he said.
