GUATEMALA CITY, May 16 (UPI) -- A Twitter user was charged with "inciting financial panic" in Guatemala for allegedly sending a "tweet" urging people to withdraw funds from a state-owned bank.

Jean Anleu Fernandez's alleged message was aimed at Banrural, a bank involved in a scandal and mysterious killing, The Guardia reported. A lawyer who was killed last weekend left a video message suggesting he might be silenced by President Alvaro Colom.

"First concrete action should be remove cash from Banrural and bankrupt the bank of the corrupt," Fernandez allegedly said.

Anleu was arrested and jailed until he pays a fine. But Twitter could come to his aid since his message is being passed on along with requests for donations.
