Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe LOS ANGELES, May 6 (UPI) -- Customs agents at the Los Angeles airport said they noticed feathers dropping out of the pants legs of one of two men indicted this week for bird smuggling. Duc Le, 34, and Sony Dong, 46, both of Garden Grove, were charged with eight counts related to the alleged smuggling of 14 rare birds from Vietnam that were found hidden in Dong's pants when he was searched at Los Angeles International Airport last month. Advertisement "After Dong arrived at LAX as scheduled, Customs and Border Protection conducted a secondary inspection of Dong and found bird feathers and droppings on his socks, as well as birds' tail feathers visible under his pants," the U.S. attorney's office said in a written statement. Dong was waved over to secondary as part of an investigation that began last December when agents found 18 birds stashed in an unclaimed suitcase that had arrived on a flight from Vietnam. Prosecutors said they later served a search warrant at Le's home and discovered a large aviary with 51 Asian birds and 70 bird cages.
