Frisbee season ended over nudity
EUGENE, Ore., April 28 (UPI) -- The University of Oregon's Ultimate Frisbee club team's season has been terminated because the male players competed while partially nude.
The team also has a history that includes players throwing drinking parties and being cited for speeding, The (Eugene, Ore.) Register-Guard reported Tuesday.
The university's five-member student club sports executive committee ended the season for the Ducks, who were ranked third in the nation, during a Monday meeting after officials received a complaint that some members of the men's team played nude during an April 11 game at Oregon State University.
"If this had been an isolated incident we would have treated it much differently," committee member Jeff Gibb said. "I'm not sure I can say that I trust the judgment of the Ultimate team -- that's why it's so hard for me to give you another chance."
Officials said the team was put on probation in November after throwing a party for more than 200 college Ultimate players in the region. Police were called to the house hosting the party on a noise complaint and discovered five kegs of beer and multiple minors hiding in the home's attic.
"Speeding, drinking, nudity -- they're not bad things," team co-captain Dusty Becker told the executive committee. "They're things a big portion of the community doesn't think are wrong."
Driver followed music to stolen truck
SUFFOLK , Va., April 28 (UPI) -- A Virginia man walked toward the distinctive music emanating from his stolen ice cream van and found it a few blocks from where it was taken, police said.
Police said the man was selling ice cream from his Blue Bunny van in Suffolk about 8:30 p.m. Saturday when two men approached him with guns and ordered him to exit the vehicle and strip down to his underwear, The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot reported Tuesday.
The driver followed the music still playing from the truck to where the vehicle had been abandoned by the thieves only a few blocks away, police said.
Suffolk spokeswoman Debbie George said it was an unusual crime.
"I don't ever recall hearing of an ice-cream truck being robbed," she said. "Typically when you hear that music, there are a lot of children around."
Masked avenger patrols Cincinnati
CINCINNATI, April 28 (UPI) -- A masked man calling himself Shadow Hare says he is on a mission to make life safer for the denizens of Cincinnati.
Shadow Hare, who has revealed only that he is 21 years old and from Milford, Ohio, said he is part of the "Allegiance of Heroes," a nationwide network of real-life masked crime fighters who communicate via the Internet and sometimes travel to each other's cities for team-ups, WLWT-TV in Cincinnati reported Tuesday.
"We help enforce the law by doing what we can in legal standards, so we carry handcuffs, pepper spray ... all the legal weapons," Shadow Hare said. "We will do citizen's arrests. We will intervene on crimes if there is one happening in front of us."
Shadow Hare said the life of a costumed avenger has its risks -- two years ago he suffered a dislocated shoulder while trying to help a woman who was being robbed. However, he said neither injury nor criticism will keep him from his mission to make Cincinnati a better place.
"My message to Cincinnati is that there is still hope and all we have to do is stand together," he said.
Carla Bruni pix stolen in 'banal burglary'
PARIS, April 28 (UPI) -- Paris police say they do not believe the thieves who stole a laptop and digital camera knew they were loaded with pictures of Carla Bruni with a former lover.
Bruni, now the wife of President Nicolas Sarkozy, lived for several years with Raphael Enthoven, a photographer, and bore him a son, Aurelien. The computer and camera loaded with photos of Enthoven, Bruni and Aurelien, were taken during a burglary at the apartment of Enthoven's brother, The Daily Telegraph reported.
"It was a banal burglary," a police spokesman said. "Everything that was digital was stolen as is often the case."
If the thieves did not know what they had after got into Julien Enthoven's apartment through a window, they probably do now, given the publicity. Raphael Enthoven had reportedly entrusted the items to his brother for safekeeping.
Bruni has been trying for a quieter image, wearing low-heeled shoes and modest dresses since a nude photo from her days as a model appeared just before a state visit to Britain last year. Before she became the third Mrs. Sarkozy, she had affairs with Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton and Donald Trump, in addition to the relationship with Enthoven.
