
WASHINGTON, April 18 (UPI) -- The lives of President Barack Obama's daughters have become a fantasy obsession for tweens, say young girls in the Washington area.
Sophie Metee, a fourth-grader in Bethesda, Md., said she believes she speaks for many whose "main, main, main, main, main goal is to meet the girls -- the Obama girls. Then the Jonas Brothers."
Girls just shy of becoming teenagers are experts at obsessing over celebrities and Sasha and Malia Obama fit the profile, mothers across the Washington Beltline told The Washington Post.
The Obama girls transcend differences in race, class and wealth for girls looking for role models outside of their own families, said psychologist Michael Brody of Potomac.
"Whether it's in terms of friendships or teachers or in terms of identification with certain celebrities -- which these kids are -- and a certain lifestyle, like living in the White House. It's a tremendous fantasy," said Brody.
