BOULDER, Colo., April 17 (UPI) -- A young Colorado man whose dog was found wrapped in packing tape and fastened to the refrigerator has surrendered the animal.

The Humane Society of Boulder Valley has temporary custody of Rex, a 2-year-old Shiba Inu, The Daily Camera reported. Lisa Pederson, the shelter's executive director, said the dog will be put up for adoption after some retraining.

Bryan Beck, 21, was cited for misdemeanor animal cruelty Thursday. His girlfriend, Ashley Toll, 20, faces a felony charge, aggravated cruelty to animals.

The report gave no indication why the dog was taped to the refrigerator.
