DERBY, England, April 10 (UPI) -- A woman in the British city of Derby says her Labrador, Buster, suffered chocolate poisoning after gorging himself on a hidden batch of Easter eggs.
Derby resident Brenda Dawes said her 5-year-old dog found a stash of 12 Easter eggs and quickly consumed the confectionery items and their tin-foil wrappings, Sky News reported Friday.
"When I arrived home one afternoon, Buster came down the stairs, wagging his tail and licking his lips. I knew immediately he'd been up to something," Dawes said of the recent incident.
Buster began crying out in pain hours after consuming the candy eggs, which Dawes had purchased as a treat for her grandchildren, Sky News said.
Dawes said after contacting the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals, she took Buster to a PetAid hospital and the canine made a full recovery.
But it appears Buster has learned little from his brush with chocolate and mortality.
"He's already tried to eat a bag of crisps and a toilet roll since he's been home -- I'll have to keep a close eye on him from now on to keep him out of trouble," Dawes told Sky News.
