WOLF RIVER, Wis., April 2 (UPI) -- A Wisconsin woman said her GPS navigation unit left her stranded miles into the woods on a snowmobile trail in Langlade County.

The woman called 911 at 10:44 a.m. Tuesday and told the operator that her GPS had instructed her to turn down a snowmobile trail while she was traveling to Laona, Wis., from the state's White Lake area, the Antigo (Wis.) Daily Journal reported Thursday.

The woman said she stopped about four or five miles down the trail, but was unable to turn her Pontiac Grand Am around because nearly a foot and a half of snow surrounded the car on the ground.

The Department of Natural Resources and the nearby Silver Birch Ranch brought in heavy equipment to free the car after a tow truck and a sheriff's department vehicle were unable to reach the woman.

"It took a while to first find her and then get her out," Deputy Keith Svoboda said. "She was really stuck."

The woman was dropped off at an area motel for the night while mechanics examined her car, which responders were unable to shift out of park after the battery died, authorities said.
