CHICAGO, March 25 (UPI) -- A Chicago commuter says he has set up a system in which Twitter users can receive updates regarding Chicago's Metra railway system.
Veteran commuter Tony Zale, who works as a software developer, said he created code that allows the social networking service to be used as a Metra update service for cautious travelers, the Chicago Tribune said Wednesday.
"Twitter is built for doing things like that, getting real-time notifications and delivering them straight to your mobile phone," Zale, 34, said.
Zale told the Tribune nearly 50 people are using his Twitter service to learn about any Metra trains running late.
The Google employee said he was inspired to work on the commuter project due to his own experiences with the railway system.
"I was just curious," he said to the Tribune, "about how Twitter worked and about solving my own Metra problem."
