TOKYO, March 23 (UPI) -- A Japanese man says he ran 52 marathons in 52 days, culminating with his entry in the Tokyo Marathon this week, and he thinks it's a world record.

Kyodo reported Monday that Akinori Kusuda, 65, completed the 26.2-mile race Sunday.

Kusuda's completion of the Tokyo Marathon broke a world record for running in daily races. The previous record was 51 marathons in 51 days, a record set by a 48-year-old Italian man nearly a year ago.

"I don't feel anything special with this record," Kusuda said after Sunday's race. "But I'd be pleased if some runners are inspired by what I've just done. And I can't find the words to describe my gratitude to all the people who have helped me."

Kusuda said he will file for recognition of his feat by Guinness World Records, the news service noted.
