NEW YORK, March 13 (UPI) -- A New York funeral director has a deal for someone with the skills to build an extension to his apartment -- a complete funeral with all the extras.
Pete Dohanich, whose business is in Brooklyn, is licensed to provide funeral services in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, The New York Daily News reports. He placed his barter ad on Craigslist.
He told the newspaper that the offer might look good to a contractor with an elderly parent or a sick relative.
"It may sound like a laughable barter transaction, but consider the average cost of paying for a funeral," he said in the ad. "Ask someone that recently had a funeral what they paid!"
Barter is reportedly becoming more common with the economic slump. Robert Meyer, editor of BarterNews, said that a funeral director is no different from any other business owner with services to trade.
Jessica Koth, a spokeswoman for the National Funeral Directors Association, called it a "very creative solution."
