Humor key to new online Redneck Bank

SNYDER, Okla., March 11 (UPI) -- A new Internet bank, the Redneck Bank, was created for people with banking needs and a sense of humor, an Oklahoma banking official says.

Wade Huckabay, whose family owns three banks in Oklahoma, said his new Bank of the Wichitas service, already has customers in 45 U.S. states after 45 days thanks to its eye-catching name, The Oklahoman reported Wednesday.

"It took off like a rocket," Huckabay said. "It's been quite a challenge to keep up with the volume."

Keith Hazelton, Oklahoma Bankers Association director of economic research, said the Redneck Bank shows the Bank of Wichitas is attempting a new tactic to garner customers.

"They clearly have chosen this as a way to differentiate themselves," he told The Oklahoman. "Instead of a toaster, you get humor."

Whatever the case, Huckabay just wants others to know he doesn't identify himself with the new service's name.

"I don't say that I'm a redneck," Huckabay told The Oklahoman.

"It's simply a bank name."
