Moose provides entertainment for skiers

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo., March 5 (UPI) -- Skiers relaxing at the end of the day at a Colorado mountain resort got something extra when a moose wandered onto the slope.

The moose was captured on video by Ben Satterfield, a Tennessee man vacationing with his family at Steamboat Springs, The Denver Post reported. His YouTube posting has been viewed by more than 3,000 people.

"It was cool," Satterfield said. "I was amazed -- I've been skiing all my life and had never seen anything like it."

Satterfield said he grabbed his camera when he heard cries of "moose, moose" coming from the deck at the resort on Feb. 12. The moose came through a fence after crossing a parking lot and then trotted up the ski slope.

Randy Hampton, a spokesman for the Colorado Division of Wildlife, said that Satterfield, who was about 50 feet from the moose concealed in ski racks, and the others who saw the moose behaved sensibly, giving the animal a lot of room.

"They're a larger animal and they are not typically afraid of people," Hampton said. "Because of their tolerance, people can sometimes get too close."
