SOLNA, Sweden, March 4 (UPI) -- A 15-year-old Swedish boy has been fined $22 for insulting a police officer after he called a pair of officers "pigs" and made oinking noises at them.

The boy, whose name was not released, was charged in February and convicted Tuesday following a formal investigation into the December incident in Solna, The Local reported Wednesday.

The officers filed a report about the incident despite the teenager apologizing when he was confronted by the pair after he made the remarks.

"The boy regrets his actions and understands that what he did was wrong," said Clea Sangborn, the teen's lawyer. "It's not appropriate to oink at police. But going from doing something dumb and inappropriate to being convicted of a crime -- that's a big jump in my opinion."
