New name suggestions for No Child act

WASHINGTON, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- The U.S. education secretary's proposal to change the name of the No Child Left Behind Act has led to a flood of tongue-in-cheek suggestions.

Children's Defense Fund founder Marian Wright Edelman offered a serious suggestion for the education act, the Quality Education for All Children Act, while a contest sponsored by Clinton administration official Andrew Rotherham has yielded suggestions including the All American Children Are Above Average Act, the Mental Asset Recovery Plan and the Act to Help Children Read Gooder, The New York Times reported Monday.

Rotherham said 41 people have submitted their ideas for the law to blog Eduwonk.com since he announced the contact last week, following Education Secretary Arne Duncan's suggestion to "rebrand" No Child Left Behind and "give it a new name."

He said other entries in the contest include Double Back Around to Pick Up the Children We Left Behind Act, the Rearranging the Deck Chairs Act, the Teach to the Test Act and the Could We Start Again Please Act.
