NORTHBROOK, Ill., Feb. 20 (UPI) -- An Illinois man approaching his 100th birthday says continuing to work five days a week well into his golden years is a good way for him to "keep busy."

Max Fabian, who will mark his 100th birthday March 9, said he has worked five days a week for more than 20 years at A-Z Industries Inc. in Northbrook, Ill., the Chicago Tribune reported Friday.

Fabian, who drives himself to work, said his duties with the corporation include inspecting warehouses and collecting the mail.

"I just want to keep busy," he told the newspaper.

The longtime veteran of the work force offered advice for workers afraid of losing their jobs to the recession.

"Do the job the best you can and listen to the man on top," he said. "That's how you keep the job."

Fabian said the personal qualities that have served him the best during his years of employment have been loyalty, trustworthiness and flexibility.

"Loyalty is No. 1," Fabian said to the Tribune. "If you have that, you're a good worker."
