SOUTH BEND, Ind., Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Police in South Bend, Ind., said a woman cried and apologized while robbing a restaurant but still left with cash from the register.

Investigators said the 31-year-old woman, a South Bend resident whose name wasn't released, allegedly robbed a 7-Eleven convenience store just prior to 8 p.m. Tuesday and tearfully robbed a Long John Silver's restaurant about two hours later, the South Bend Tribune reported Friday.

"If I wasn't down and out, I wouldn't be doing this," the woman allegedly said while crying during the restaurant robbery.

A customer at the eatery's drive-through window called police and a suspect was arrested while fleeing through a neighboring parking lot. Police said they didn't find a gun, despite the woman's claims of being armed during the robberies, the Tribune said.

She was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail on suspicion of felony theft.
