Dispatcher helps woman deliver twins

MILFORD , Conn., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- A Connecticut emergency dispatcher said he returned a hang-up call to find that the woman on the other end of the line was giving birth to twins.

Dispatcher Seth Wilox of the Milford Fire Department said he returned a hang-up call made to the emergency number at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday and found himself speaking to a woman who had gone into labor and did not believe she would make it to the hospital in time, WFSB-TV, Hartford, Conn., reported Tuesday.

Emergency responders from the woman's city, West Haven, Conn., were contacted and Wilox said he was able to help the woman and her husband through the childbirth process using prompt cards supplied by the department. However, after the child was born, Wilox said he received another shock from the woman's husband -- there was a second baby coming.

"Now it's like, 'OK, the baby's out. Oh, by the way, we're having twins,' and it's like, 'Oh, God, really?'" Wilox said.

The second child was born at a local hospital after emergency responders arrived at the woman's home. Officials said the mother and her newborn twins are doing well.
