Custom Radiator owner Corey Parent told the Winnipeg Sun someone cut a hole in his chain link fence early Friday and stole Ripper, a 2-year-old male dog, but left 2-year-old Duchess behind.
As part of the police investigation into the break-in, a 23-year old man was charged with numerous other offenses, and the stolen dog was returned to Parent.
"I thought Ripper had got out and maybe the pound had him. I figured I'd get him back, because he has all his shots and tags. Then the cops showed up and told me the whole story and I laughed," said Parent. "Who'd steal a guard dog?"
The man charged allegedly began a crime spree in the area Dec. 27, when police say he took a truck out for a test drive and didn't return it. The truck was found and returned and police also found a marijuana farm in the man's home.
He remains in custody, the Sun said.
