BRIGHOUSE, England, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- A councilor in England's Calderdale borough said planned "pigeon awareness days" is an idea that "could have come straight out of a Monty Python sketch."
The pigeon awareness days are part of a report to Calderdale Council's health and social care scrutiny panel that also calls for removing eggs from nests as part of an effort to rid the town of Brighouse of feral pigeons, The Daily Mail reported Monday.
However, the nearly $15,000 plan was ridiculed by Councilor Paul Rogan.
"There is only one way of eradicating pigeons and that is for people to stop feeding them," Rogan said. "As for 'pigeon awareness' days, words fail me. It is beyond the realms of slapstick humor and could have come straight out of a Monty Python sketch."
The plan was defended by one of its main backers, Councilor Colin Stout.
"There are more and more of the birds on the streets and the problem has got way out of hand," he said.
