HUTCHINSON , Minn., Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Authorities said a Minnesota 19-year-old has been charged with breaking into his parents' home and stealing $8,580 worth of property and cash.

Joseph Andrus was charged with felony counts of second-degree burglary and theft of a motor vehicle after he allegedly convinced his parents to travel out of town for dinner Dec. 26 and broke into their Hutchinson home while they were away, the Hutchinson Leader reported Thursday.

Andrus allegedly took cash, jewelry, checks, a .22-caliber rifle and a 2005 Dodge Neon from the home. He was arrested at about 9 p.m. at a friend's house in Duluth, Minn. The stolen property was recovered and police returned him to Hutchinson Dec. 27.
