WELWYN GARDEN CITY, England, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- The British parents of nine girls, ranging in age from 2 to 17, said they have finally brought a baby boy into the world.

Sally and John Laycock said they expected their 10th child to be another girl after the long-running string of female children, so they were shocked when a scan revealed the child to be a boy and delighted when 7-pound, 5-ounce Lewis was born Dec. 9, The Daily Mail reported Tuesday.

"I was absolutely ecstatic," proud pop John Laycock said of discovering the sex of his latest child. "I started carrying the scan photo with me everywhere."

"Before Lewis came along, I had to try to make the girls interested in football. Now I'll have a boy to take to matches one day," he said.

Sally Laycock said little Lewis was welcomed with equal vigor by his nine big sisters at the family's Welwyn Garden City, England, home.

"Lewis is beautiful and all the girls love him to bits," she said. "They spoil him rotten."
