No new trial regarding ex-judge's pants

WASHINGTON, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- A former judge suing a District of Columbia dry cleaner over a pair of pants will not receive a new trial in the matter, a District appeals court says.

The D.C. Court of Appeals ruled this week that former District judge Roy Pearson will not earn a new trial in his ongoing attempt to win a $54 million suit against Custom Cleaners owner Jin Chung over a simple pair of pants, the DC Examiner said Friday.

Pearson has claimed that by advertising "Satisfaction Guaranteed," the dry cleaner is liable to pay a customer whatever they request if the client's property is damaged or missing.

Pearson maintains he took his lucky pair of pants into the dry cleaner in 2005, only to be presented with a different pair when he returned to the business.

Chung offered Pearson $12,000 to settle his lawsuit, but was rejected and his business ultimately closed due to mounting legal costs.

The Examiner said Pearson, whose case lost in trial court, can now appeal the District court's ruling to a nine-judge appellate court.
