Guinness rejects eye socket strength feat

GUIYANG, China, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- A Chinese kung fu master said Guinness World Records will not recognize his feat of pulling cars using hooks lodged in his eye sockets.

Luo Deyuan, 21, said his feat of ocular strength was kept out of the record books because officials decided it was too dangerous, Britain's The Sun reported Thursday.

However, Luo said he has not given up on his dreams of Guinness Book glory. He plans to submit more stunt proposals to the world record authority -- including lifting buckets of water with his eyebrows, walking on sharp blades and stopping electric fans with his tongue.

"I'll keep trying because I really want to do something special in the world. I really want to perform my stunts on a bigger stage," he said.

Wrong inmate released from Tenn. jail

NASHVILLE, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- A burglary suspect walked out of a Tennessee jail posing as another man with a similar name who had been ordered released on his own recognizance.

Kenneth Anderson, 46, got past four security checkpoints Wednesday morning, The Nashville Tennessean reported. The other inmate, Kennus Anderson, was freed once jail employees realized the mistake.

Montgomery County Sheriff Norman Lewis described Anderson, a Nashville resident, as a "frequent flier" at the jail. He had been arrested at least 14 times in the past four years and had been held since Christmas Eve 2007 because he was unable to post $10,000 bail.

Lewis said he does not believe Anderson is dangerous.

Capt. Doug Tackett, the jail supervisor, said each inmate has a wristband with a photo, name and identification number. The information on the wristband is supposed to be checked at least four times during release.

"They even issued him his own personal property before they released him. They should have caught it then, too," Tackett said.

Sweden foists Canadian status on woman

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Bureaucratic mistakes that made a dual-citizenship Swedish citizen a Canadian will cost the Swedish government $130, a government chancellor ruled.

The Local reported the unidentified woman had a Canadian father and Swedish mother, and was born a dual citizen in Sweden in 1984.

In 1992, her father applied for a Canadian passport for his daughter, and documents were filed with the Swedish consulate in Vancouver as part of the process, the report said.

Somehow, Swedish tax authorities used the information to strip the woman's Swedish citizenship, making her solely Canadian.

In 2003, the woman was told she couldn't stay in Sweden because, as a foreigner, she lacked a residence permit. It took a year of bureaucratic wrangling, but the woman had her Swedish citizenship reinstated in 2005, the report said.

The country's Chancellor of Justice denied the woman's claim for restitution for having to pay foreign student-rate tuition fees, but awarded her the $130 cost of reinstating her citizenship, the newspaper said.

Police: Man took hearse for joyride

WEST PARK, Fla., Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Broward County, Fla., officials said an 18-year-old was arrested after he took a hearse from a church during a funeral and took it for a joyride.

Broward sheriff's deputies said Johnny Silfrain, 18, took the hearse, which still had the keys in it, from the Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church in West Park after the casket was removed from the back for the funeral, The Miami Herald reported.

Silfrain allegedly made a stop at his parents' home in Hallandale Beach before evading chasing police and heading back toward the church. The stolen hearse was soon met by sheriff's deputies, who fired at least two shots at the vehicle -- one of which struck Silfrain in the leg, authorities said.

Sheriff's officials said Silfrain was arrested after abandoning the hearse back at the church and fleeing into the church, where the service was still being conducted. He was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood to receive treatment for the gunshot wound.
