SPRING CITY, Pa., Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Vice President-elect Joe Biden has appointed a Spring City, Pa., German shepherd to serve as second dog during his upcoming tenure in the nation's No. 2 spot.

The incoming veep and his grandson visited Linda Brown's kennel Saturday with a six-car convoy in tow and went home with a six-week-old German shepherd destined to live at the vice president's residence in Washington, the Philadelphia Enquirer reported Monday.

A Biden spokeswoman said the Democrat has a long history with German shepherds and has personally owned three of the breed.

"He has been looking forward to getting a dog for a long time," said spokeswoman Elizabeth Alexander. "He has promised grandchildren they can name it."
