HMO apologizes for phone sex mix-up

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Dec. 12 (UPI) -- An HMO serving employees of the Florida state government and their families is apologizing after a typo sent customers to a phone sex line.

AvMed Health Plans, which covers about 21,000 state workers and their families, said it is sending apology letters to plan members after a misprint on membership cards listed the number for a phone sex line instead of the correct customer service line, the Tallahassee Democrat reported Friday.

"In an effort to better serve you, AvMed Health Plans has created a dedicated service line for state of Florida employees and their dependents," the HMO wrote in the letter to subscribers. "Some 2009 membership cards issued prior to" Wednesday bore the wrong toll-free phone numbers.

The incorrect numbers connect to a recorded voice message for Intimate Encounters promising sexual conversations in exchange for money.
