Tackle helps nab missing dog

NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 23 (UPI) -- A dog that had run away from home in Norfolk, Va., was successfully recaptured thanks to a woman's sure-handed tackle, one dog searcher says.

Debra Griggs said she and nine other people conducted an extensive search for Sebastian the Chow, which had run away from its owner's home Nov. 15, but it was not the dog catcher's mitt or catch pole that finally snagged the canine, The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot reported Sunday.

Griggs said one woman aiding in Saturday's search captured the dog by running up and grabbing it as it snoozed.

Of course, it helped that the 12-year-old dog had stopped in an open field to rest its old bones and take a nap.

"As old dogs do," Griggs said, "he was asleep."

Griggs told the Virginian-Pilot the canine tackle was one for the memory books.

"I wish I had a camera," she said.
