NEW YORK, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- A New York woman is suing her former fiance for $1 million, alleging he ruined her wedding day by becoming mentally and physically abusive.

The New York Post reported Sunday that Catherine Specchia accuses her former boyfriend, Mario Roveto, of agreeing to marry her last August despite never having any intention of going through with any marital vows.

The fraud lawsuit is seeking $1 million for damages caused by the couple's failed wedding, which was canceled after the couple's relationship deteriorated due to Roveto's alleged abusive actions.

Specchia and her parents, Luca and Antonina, allege in their lawsuit that the wedding cancellation came after they spent more than $68,000 to help prepare for the woman's big day, the Post reported.

Among the payments alleged in the suit are $32,200 to rent a hall for the wedding day, $3,000 for invitations to the event and $12,000 for a wedding dress.
