LONDON, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- The owner of a London community center said a girl's 16th birthday party was ruined by about 60 gate crashing thugs who learned about the event on Facebook.
Daniel Sisilu, owner of the London Baba Foundation community center, said a group of about 30 teenagers tried to force their way into the party at about 10 p.m. Saturday and the number doubled to about 60 after he phoned police, The Daily Mail reported Friday.
Police said the troublemakers threw glass bottles at arriving officers from the windows of the community center.
Sgt. Geoff Cooper, head of the Croydon Police licensing team, said police shut down the event at 12:05 a.m. with a closure order. He said no arrests were made.
The community center was closed for 48 hours as a result of the order and a court has instructed the venue to begin closing at 10:30 p.m. instead of the former midnight closing time to help prevent further incidents.
