'Prayer booths' blend humor with holy

NEW YORK, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Artist Dylan Mortimer says the "prayer booths" he designed for New York are a way for the city to talk about the holy with humor.

Mortimer's colorful pair of booths, replete with flip-down kneeling pads, are the city's latest public art installation, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

Installed in September, the metal and blue-vinyl booths feature an icon of folded hands and are to remain up through this month near the entrance to the Roosevelt Island tram in Midtown.

"This is a way to talk about prayer in the public sphere -- but with a

bit of humor," said Mortimer, 28, a graduate of New York's School of Visual Arts.
