ALNWICK, England, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- A British squirrel expert and children's author said he required a tetanus shot and a course of antibiotics after a squirrel he nursed back to health bit him.

Ernie Gordon, 75, author of squirrel-centric children's book "The Adventures of Rusty Red Coat Volume 1," said he took in the 6-month-old red squirrel after Alnwick, England, residents reported seeing it limping around, The Daily Telegraph reported Monday.

Gordon said he named the animal Elvis the Pelvis after a veterinarian told him the squirrel had broken his pelvis and the small animal stayed with him for several days before deciding to bite the hands that fed him.

The author said he suffered bites on his right hand index finger and his left hand thumb.

"You cannot believe the strength or pressure a little squirrel has in its jaw," Gordon said.

He said Elvis has moved in with a friend who is continuing to nurse the animal back to health.
