FLINT, Mich., Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Students at the University of Michigan-Flint are participating in a can drive they say could set a world record.

Participants in Cans Across America, which aims to collect 400,000 pounds of non-perishable food within a 24-hour period on U.S. college campuses, said they will submit the feat to the Guinness World Records if they are successful, the Flint (Mich.) Journal reported Friday.

"I think it is very exciting," said organizer Jelena Jovi, a senior at the school. "We have the chance to be a part of a record. Even if we don't set, just to be part of it anyway will be fun. We can play a small part in it."
