ROCHESTER, N.Y., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- The National Toy Hall of Fame in Rochester, N.Y., announced it has inducted the skateboard, the baby doll and one surprise plaything -- a stick.

The National Toy Hall of Fame at the Strong National Museum of Play said the skateboard and baby doll beat out 10 rival finalists for their spots in toy history, including games such as Clue, The Game of Life, Hot Wheels, Magic 8 Ball, Rubik's Cube, Flexible Flyer sleds, Thomas the Tank Engine, Wiffle Ball, Yahtzee and doll houses, the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reported Friday.

The 19-member national selection panel said they also decided to induct a plaything that was not on the list of finalists, the common stick. The panel hailed the stick for its ability "to inspire spontaneous play" by allowing children to imagine them as magic wands, swords and other objects.

Playthings reported that 41 toys have so far been inducted into into the National Toy Hall of Fame. The Atari 2600 video game system, the Raggedy Andy doll and the kite were inducted in 2007.
