Wis. man digs homemade car out of basement

MADISON, Wis., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- A Wisconsin man who built a replica Lamborghini in his basement said he had to hire an excavator to dig the sports car out of his home.

Ken Imhoff said he fell in love with the car after watching the movie "Cannonball Run" and decided to build his own replica from scratch -- a project that took him 10 years to complete, The Sun reported Tuesday.

However, Imhoff said he was faced with a new problem once his long project was at an end -- getting the car out of his basement and onto the road, the British newspaper said.

Imhoff said he built a ramp and then hired an excavator to remove a section of the property's foundation and dig a slope in the garden.

"I was like an expectant father watching it come through the wall. I was literally shaking," Imhoff said of the process of removing the car. "As the last blanket and car cover were removed I knew at that moment I had accomplished what I had dreamed about so many years ago and to see it sitting there in front of me was surreal."

Man: Airline wants extra for prosthetics

LONDON, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- A British double-amputee said a budget airline has told him he will need to pay extra to bring his spare prosthetic legs with him on vacation.

Mick Skee said Jet2 refused to waive the excess baggage fee for his spare legs when he purchased a ticket to fly to Majorca in May 2009, The Daily Mail reported Tuesday.

Skee, who lost both of his legs due to meningococcal septicemia in 2006, said he plans to write company bosses in protest of the decision and will discuss the issue with his local member of Parliament.

"It is ridiculous. The legs weigh less than a wheelchair, but I have been told that Jet2 are not prepared to budge," he said.

"It's the principle. This is something that could affect other people in the same situation and it is an issue that needs to be dealt with," Skee said.

Jet2's customer services department said it will attempt to respond to Skee's complaints within 21 days.

British official proposes new pet rules

LONDON, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Britain's environment secretary has sparked controversy with a list of proposed new rules that could mean jail time for pet owners who walk dogs on hot days.

Environment Secretary Hilary Benn's proposed new codes of conduct for dog, cat and horse owners include rules that would allow for prosecution under the Animal Welfare Act of 2006, of pet owners whose animals become too thin, become too fat, are fed from the table or are walked on hot days, The Daily Mail reported Tuesday.

"This means no one will be able to claim ignorance as an excuse," Benn said.

Some officials said they believe the new code of conduct goes too far.

"Some of these elements are over the top. This is not the sort of stuff we expected to be in the code," Conservative agriculture spokesman Jim Paice said.

Musicians leave servers $10,000 tip

OMAHA, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- An Omaha, Neb., restaurant said musicians with the Trans Siberian Orchestra left waiters a $10,000 tip after three weeks of service.

Workers at Sullivans Restaurant said they waited on the same group of musicians nearly every night for three weeks and on the final night the group left a $10,000 bonus with the usual tip to be distributed among the servers, KETV, Omaha, Neb., reported Tuesday.

The restaurant manager did not say how many servers split the generous tip.
