LONDON, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Voters in a British poll have elected Carla Bruni, the wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, their favorite celebrity of the year.

Virgin Media announced Bruni, a native Italian, topped their Alternative Cool List with nearly one in four respondents casting their ballots in her favor. Kate Bush came in second with 14 percent of the votes, The Sun reported Tuesday.

Coming in third in the poll were the members of the singing group Girls Aloud, while U.S. singer and actress Beyonce was fourth and Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant ranked in fifth place, the British newspaper said.
